Today, two of my customers posted glowing reviews for my Excel Video Tutorials. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

9 Essential Skills for Excel 2010

9 Essential Skills for Excel 2010 Video Tutorial

“Nine Essential Skills for Excel 2010”

“In my opinion the 9 Essential Skills for Excel 2010 , is an outstanding training video. It covers a lot of the required intermediate requirements. One thing that really stands out for me is the method of presentation. Danny always:

  • a) explains what he is going to do in simple language
  • b)demonstrates what he has just explained
  • c)shows you where to find the icons on the ribbon
  • d)shows you the keyboard shortcuts to use(they actually appear on the video as they are used.

The video also had a good introduction to the value of using tables. Like all of Danny’s videos this should be a fantastic success.

Pivot Tables for Excel 2003

“Excel 2003 Pivot Tables to Summarize, Analyze, and Present Information”

“A mere few hours with your Excel 2003 course and I was able to
perform pivot table operations which had eluded me for over a year
using multiple other publications totaling nearly 1,500 pages: while those sources are terrific, each of us learns differently, your courses certainly fill that learning gap for me.

I deal with mostly with cumulative metrics, that is, incremental, week to week.

After two evenings of your course, I was able to build tables presenting the year, month, quarter & weekly totals of the multiple tools deployed, and, amazingly, display the incremental changes down to a week-to-week basis.

You had mentioned that you hoped I enjoyed the course, of course, I enjoyed the course – indeed, but after a year-plus struggle with several other sources, the *learning* from your course was the true reward!”

Product Reviews

It’s really a master piece!!

Posted by Tamoghna on 8th Sep 2012

“I was a beta tester of “9 Essential Excel Skills- Excel 2010” by Danny Rocks. In one word this is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to master those essential skills which are required to use excel professionally. There are total 9 chapters which consist of a series of dense but brief video lessons.

The lessons have been planned in a careful way so that the viewers are introduced from simple to more complex topics.

Surely you are going to be amazed by the incredible picture and sound quality of the videos. I had a feeling as if I was watching an excel movie while putting my head phone. Danny has several qualities as an instructor. His pace of delivery and voice modulation is just fantastic and if you are not an absolute excel-newbie watching a video just one time is enough. Before starting each lesson he gives a brief introduction so that you can connect what you learned in the previous lesson. He also repeats and stresses some part which you will find really helpful.

Another great take away from this video tutorial is a bunch of great keyboard shortcuts and best excel practices which you can expect only from an excel veteran. Among so many other things I was left with surprise why I didn’t use “page layout view” and “vertical alignment formatting” before! Even if you are an advanced excel user surely you are going to learn a lot of useful tricks including some commonly encountered gotchas and how to avoid them.

I won’t be taken aback If this product goes every corner of the excel user community and becomes best seller in this field.”

Microsoft Access – A Quick Video Tour of my DVD, The 50 Best Tips for Access 2007

Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel work together seamlessly. However, they are VERY DIFFERENT programs. It is very easy to exchange data between the two programs. But there is a world of difference when in it comes to storing, entering, and analyzing data in each program.

Recently, a number of my viewers have asked me how to create Data Forms in Excel. In almost every case, they want a simple answer – one that does not require them to learn VBA – Visual Basic for Applications. My considered response is that Access is the best way to collect and relate data via Forms. And then, use Excel to analyze the information that you collect from those data forms.

Here is a short – 6 1/2 minutes –  video tour of my DVD-ROM, “The 50 Best Tips for Access 2007.” If you have never used Microsoft Access, this video will give you an idea of how it works. If you have tried to use Access, but gave up in frustration, I am confident that my video tutorials will help you to get over the learning curve so that you can use Access to its full potential!

Nine Categories of  Video Tutorials for Access 2007

On my DVD-ROM, I have organized the 50 Video Tips into nine categories of lessons:

  1. Getting Started with Access 2007 – 9 Videos. Perfect introduction for new users of Access as well as a quick guide the the changes and additions in Access 2007 and Access 2010.
  2. Working with Tables in Access 2007 – 5 Videos. Tables are the essential building blocks in Access. Learn how to create many focused Tables and then create relationships between them.
  3. Using Filters & Queries in Access 2007 – 8 Videos. Filters are “temporary” or one-time questions. Queries are “saved” or “named” questions about the information in your database.
  4. Running Action Queries in Access  2007 – 4 Videos. Action queries allow you to quickly make changes to the data in Access. You can update, or delete records; append records or make a new table from a query.
  5. Working with Access 2007 Forms – 9 Videos. Forms are very easy to create in Excel. Use forms to enter data or to view your data – one record at a time. Gather data via Forms in Access and then export this data to analyze in Excel.
  6. Working with External Data in Access 2007 – 4 Videos. Did you know that you can use Access to semi-automatically update your Microsoft Outlook contact information? Learn how to integrate the programs in the MS Office Suite.
  7. Working with Access 2007 Reports – 5 Videos. Reports are designed for printing and distributing the summarized information in you Access database. Learn how to create a mailing label report for your next direct mail campaign!
  8. Managing Access 2007 Databases – 3 Videos. Learn how easy it is to back up your database. You can even “split” a larger database into smaller, more focused databases.
  9. Automating Access 2007 – 3 Videos. Learn how to use Macros and Command Buttons that allow less-experienced end-users enter and output the information in your Access database.

How to Add Scroll Bar Controls to Excel Forms

This is the fourth in my continuing series of Excel training video lessons on Adding Form Controls to your worksheets. Here, I demonstrate how to Add Scroll Bar Controls to a Loan Scenario. Form Controls help to make your Excel worksheets “interactive,” and they are great tools to add when you distribute spreadsheets to users who may not be proficient in Excel.

Understand the Cell Link

The key concept to understand with Form Controls is the “Cell Link.” The form controls are merely “drawing shapes” until you actually link them to a cell that controls their output. The “got’cha” step for Scroll Bars – as with Spin Buttons – is that the Maximum Value is 30,000. So, if you want a control to show a loan amount of, for example, $300,000.00 you make the Maximum value 300 and then create a formula that references the “cell link” and multiplies it by 1,000.

In my research on Form Controls, I rarely find authors who mention this point – and, in my experience, this is how most Excel users get “tripped up” when they want to add Form Controls to workbooks to make them interactive. Watch as I walk you through each step in this process.

Please, let me know if this video lesson has helped you to better understand how Excel Form Controls work. Add your comment below – I promise to respond to your comments!

Quickly Create a Series of Dates in Excel

In this lesson, I demonstrate two approaches to creating a series of dates in Excel:

  1. Use Excel’s AutoFill Options to drag your mouse to fill in the series. Be sure to use the “AutoFill Options” button when you release your mouse.
  2. Use an Excel Formula to increment the series of dates (by day, week, month, year, or even weekday.) This approach gives you the most flexibility if you will use a different starting date on copies of your worksheet.

I devote several lessons to Excel date formulas and date formatting on my DVD, “The 50 Best Tips for Excel 2007.” Click here to add it to your shopping cart.
